Places to Visit in London this Autumn

It’s really happening — summer’s leaving us. Sad times for some, but very, very happy times for those of us who can’t wait for cosier weather. Just imagine it, you’re all wrapped up in warm, freshly laundered blankets, a hot cup of cocoa in hand (complete with a marshmallow mountain, of course). Heaven.

There are plenty of placelists to help keep the snug vibes going while you’re out and about in London. Let’s explore a few of our favourites…

Add a little bit of (pumpkin) spice

You don’t have to hit up the big S-chain to find great, soul-warming coffee this season. Take your pick from one of the spots in this ‘But first… coffee’ placelist by @saadiachowdhury.

St Mary Aldermary — The ideal place to reminisce on the harvest festival celebrations of your school days over a steaming hazelnut latte. A stunning setting to waste a few hours on the weekend.

Algerian Coffee Stores — First opened in Soho 135 years ago, so it’s safe to say they know their coffee beans. Pick up a blend for later, as well as a cup to take with you on the next part of your autumnal adventure (for under £2!).

Have a look at the full placelist for some more quality spots for a speciality roast.

Through amber-tinted lenses

The explosion of warm autumnal colours as we head out of summer is simply unmatched. Use @pabloscheffer’sInto the Wild! (in London)’ placelist to surround yourself with nature before the days get too much shorter. Grab that coffee from before and head to…

Horniman Nature Trail — This nature haven is gorgeous year-round, but especially so when it’s dusted in yellow and gold. For a peaceful end to an autumn afternoon (or an equally calm start to the morning), be sure to stop by.

Sydenham Hill Wood — Not only is this surprising in its size, but also in its age. This ancient wood has seen the growth of suburban London and continues to thrive, offering rare flora and fauna a chance to bloom in the busy city. Keep them protected by taking your empty cup with you when you leave!

Need some more inspo? There’s plenty more to see in the full placelist.

No rain on our parade

Bad weather may be the UK’s hallmark, but it certainly shouldn’t stop you from enjoying yourself. Grey skies calling off your park plans mean there’s only one thing for it — a cinema trip! We’re not talking about your basic Vue here. Bimbler @dinewithfari’s ‘Unique Cinemas in London’ placelist is packed with spots to elevate your viewing experience…

Backyard Cinema — Sink into the comfort of a giant bean bag in this immersive experience in Wandsworth. The decor and bars here are all based around the theme of the film (with live performances to match), leaving you completely captivated.

Rivoli Ballroom — Fancy a classic? Rivoli’s the place for you. This gorgeous 50’s ballroom is one of the last left intact in London. While the rain pours down outside, you can retreat into a bygone era at one of their pop-up cinema nights. A Clockwork Orange and Little Shop of Horrors (1986) are the featured films for September, but October’s Fright Night fixtures are where it’s really at.

Rio Cinema — Not only is the art-deco Rio a wonderful homage to the traditional cinema experience, they’re also entirely independently run. Catch a mainstream release here, or sit back as the red curtains roll open on an arthouse indie production.

Is anyone else hoping for more rain just to have an excuse to visit these spots? Take a look at the full placelist so you’ve got something up your sleeve as soon as you spy clouds.

Feeling ready to embrace the autumn chill? We know it’s hard to drag yourself away from the duvet cover, but trust us, these finds are worth it. Dig out your puffer jacket and a beanie, and get exploring. Don’t forget, there’s always more inspiration to uncover in the Bimble app.
